Mitchell Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Graves says an extra credit offer made to Mitchell High School biology students who were willing to receive a COVID-19 vaccination was an overreach by the instructor.
In a letter to parents and students, Dr. Graves says the offer was made by the teacher out of genuine concern for the health of the students and was informed by the teacher’s expertise in human biology.
The superintendent wrote that the offering of extra credit points was inappropriate, and that the offer was withdrawn. He added that the decision to vaccinate should be made without incentives or disincentives from the school district.
