MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — A 28-year-old Milbank man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Thursday night, Jan. 1, on Interstate 29 near White, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at about 8:04 p.m. near mile marker 144, just outside White, the sheriff’s office said.

A preliminary investigation found the driver was traveling southbound in a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado when the pickup struck a guardrail and entered the median, then rolled and came to rest on its passenger side.

Deputies located an adult male occupant who was alert but trapped inside the vehicle. The Brookings Fire Department extricated him, and he was taken by Brookings Ambulance to a hospital in Brookings before being transferred to a Sioux Falls hospital because of the seriousness of his injuries, authorities said. His condition has not been released.

The sheriff’s office said the truck had disabling damage. Damage to the guardrail system was estimated at about $57,000.

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Brookings Fire Department and Brookings Ambulance.
