MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) In the Citizens’ Input portion of the Minnehaha County Commission meeting, Commissioners were accused of “treason” because of their failure to control voting by RV’ers who license their vehicles in South Dakota and who vote here.
State law requires voters to live in the state at least 30 days before registering to vote. However, that requirement conflicts with the federal Voting Rights Act so the Commission’s hands are tied. The citizens who spoke at the meeting were unwilling to accept that federal law supersedes state law, especially when it comes to issues surrounding voting rights.
