MITCHELL S.D. (Mitchell Now) Mitchell has announced its annual Spring Cleanup Week. Residents can set oversized items at the curb April 20th through the 24th for pickup on their regular garbage day, with a ten-dollar fee per stop. The city says items like tires, batteries, yard waste and construction debris will not be accepted. During the same week, residents can also take pickup-sized loads to the landfill free of charge. Extended landfill hours will be available on select days.

South Dakotans who are elderly or disabled have until April first to apply for property tax relief through the state’s assessment freeze program. The program keeps a homeowner’s property value from increasing for tax purposes—even if the home’s market value goes up. To qualify, applicants must meet income limits, be 65 or older or disabled, and have lived in their home for most of the past year. Applications are available through your county treasurer’s office or online through the South Dakota Department of Revenue.
