MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Blacksmith Clark Martinek has completed Hope, a 10-foot, 500-pound iron sculpture celebrating the fall harvest and community spirit in Mitchell. Featuring natural elements like a bird, mouse, ladybug, and wheat stalks, the sculpture will be unveiled during First Friday on May 2nd, according to the Mitchell Daily Republic. It will serve as a tribute to resilience and rebirth. Sponsored by local businesses, the piece took nearly a year to finish. Inspired by WWII-era Hope wheat, the sculpture also honors agricultural history and will be part of a revitalization effort for Mitchell’s Main Street.
