The Mitchell City Council passed on first reading Tuesday night an ordinance that would amend the election wards in Mitchell.  City Attorney Justin Johnson says the process occurs after every census to make the populations consistent among the wards.

He says there are not many changes.  All of the wards will keep their current number, and all of the current council members will remain in their existing wards.

Johnson says the boundaries that were proposed are consistent with how they were prepared for the county and how their precincts line up by Planning and Development District 3.
