The Mitchell City Council last night approved a secondary water source agreement with Randall Community Water District. The city will receive up to 5 million gallons per day of additional potable water. Mitchell’s current maximum daily capacity of water is 2.6 million gallons, which is supplied by B-Y Water District. The city’s water usage has been more than that amount more regularly in the past several years. Cost to the city is estimated to be $78 million funded through a 30-year loan at 1.875 percent interest. The cost could fluctuate based on the final bid. It was also noted that the city will retain ownership of the pipeline between Stickney and Mitchell with the term of the agreement expires. The council unanimously approved the agreement.
