The Mitchell City Council approved a zoning change for the city-owned Kelley property near Lake Mitchell at its Monday meeting.  Part of the property had been zoned Davison County Agriculture.  The change would make the entire property Mitchell Urban Development. The city purchased the house and adjacent land for wetland improvement purposes.

“When the city purchased the Kelley property and then we annexed in the eight parcels at one time, the four parcels on the west side of 406th Avenue were technically county zoning, and county zoning was Agriculture,” said Mitchell City Planner Mark Jenniges.  “When we annexed it to the city of Mitchell, the zoning did not get changed with it.  So technically, there right now is no zoning on those four parcels that the city owns.  So we are proposing to change it to Urban Development, which is exactly what is across the street.”

The Mitchell Planning Commission recommended approval of the zoning change, which will establish some regulations on the property.  The house and about 10 acres are listed for sale by the city.
