The Mitchell City Council meets at 6 PM this evening at City Hall in downtown Mitchell. The agenda includes action to approve the Corn Palace service agreement with the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce. The current contract expires this month. The new two-year contract would increase the Chamber’s rent for the Corn Palace gift shop to $165,000 annually for the first year. That is a 17 percent increase from the current annual base rent of nearly $141,000. The rent would then be adjusted based on the Consumer Price Index. The new agreement does not include the 5% of gross sales above $750,000 which is included in the current agreement.

The agenda also includes a resolution of intent to create Business Improvement District #4. An occupational tax of $2.00 per occupied night would be imposed upon hotels, motels or lodging establishments in Mitchell. The money would be used for the enhancement, expansion, marketing, and promotion of visitor facilities, events, attractions, and activities.

Tonight’s Mitchell City Council meeting is open to the public.  It is also televised locally and streamed online.  The agenda can be found here: https://mitchellsd.portal.civicclerk.com/event/1128/files.
