MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Mitchell City Council meets Monday night to hear a proposal from Alabama-based Retail Strategies, a firm that recruits retailers using consumer tracking data. According to the Daily Republic, Mayor Jordan Hanson wants $50,000 for a retail study in his proposed 2026 budget, arguing just one recruited business generating $2.5 million in annual sales would cover the cost through sales tax revenue. Retail Strategies says its three-year approach could eventually bring new stores to Mitchell, though results may take time. The council will also continue budget talks and review union agreements, construction projects, and annexations. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
