MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) There could be a new summer childcare option on the way for Mitchell families. The Mitchell School District and city officials are working together on a plan to launch a full-day summer childcare program. It’s in response to strong feedback from local parents who say they need more options, especially after EmBe, a major childcare provider, shut down last year. Superintendent Joe Childs says the idea is to give school-aged kids a safe, engaging place to go while parents are at work without competing with existing providers. The program would run from late May through mid-August. Breakfast and lunch would be included, and the weekly cost would be around $80 per child, which is about half the going rate in the area. The city is considering pitching in $150,000 to help get the program off the ground. That proposal will be discussed at today’s City Council meeting .If all goes well, the program could launch by Memorial Day weekend. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
