Mitchell Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 212 West 4th Avenue on Sunday night. The call was received just before 9 PM. Crews reported no visible flames from the outside of the structure on arrival. As firefighters investigated, the fire was found to be burning on the east side of the home inside of a back entry door. An attack line was brought to a first floor window on the east side, and crews broke out this window to gain access to the home. There was a fence between fire crews and the fire, so forcible entry was required. Fire personnel quickly extinguished the flames and began searching for fire extension.

Mitchell Fire had approximately ten firefighters on scene, and no injuries were reported. The Mitchell Police Division also responded.

The fire did not spread to other portions of the home and the scene was turned over to investigators. Investigators ruled out any accidental causes and have deemed this incident to be suspicious in nature.
