MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Soon the construction on the new Mitchell High School will focus on joining the new structure to the MCTEA building, which itself was first used in 1968 as the original home of Mitchell Technical Institute now College, and then move on to interior work on the classroom walls and interior electrical, plumbing etc.

Mark Puetz, the president of Puetz Construction which is the main contractor for the high school building project, says that 85% of the building should be finished by December of 2024 with a completion date of late winter or early spring 2025.  When the school district decides to move into their new digs, spring of 2025 or the start of a new school term in August of 2025, will be up to them.

Demolition of the current high school is scheduled for fall of 2025.  Once that building is gone, the plan is the empty space where the old high school once stood will be converted to practice fields and some parking places.
