MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) Mitchell High School would like to announce the hiring of Amy Tyler as the new head volleyball coach. She becomes just the second head coach in school history, succeeding longtime coach Deb Thill. Coach Tyler brings a proven track record and history of success to Mitchell. She was previously the head volleyball coach at Wagner High School for 16 years where she led the program to years of sustained success including Class A State Championships in 2008 and 2009, establishing herself as one of the most successful coaches in the region and earning respect for her ability to develop competitive, disciplined teams.
Most recently, she served as an assistant coach with Mitchell Volleyball from 2020 through 2022. She has also served as an assistant coach for the track & field program since 2020. Widely regarded for her ability to connect with student-athletes, Coach Tyler’s greatest strength is her ability to develop meaningful relationships, fostering trust, accountability, and a positive team culture that translates to success on the court.
Coach Tyler inherits a program that finished the 2025 season with a record of 16-11 and qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2018.
The hire is pending school board approval.
