MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A long-discussed idea for an indoor sports complex in Mitchell is gaining momentum. City Council member Mike Bathke shared plans with the local hotel tax board for a 116,000-square-foot facility that could serve as a year-round hub for soccer, tennis, pickleball, football, and more. The project’s estimated cost is around $20 million, depending on materials and design choices. Bathke says the goal is to build a cost-effective facility that could expand in the future and provide healthy options for local youth during the winter. A business plan is in the works, and no location has been chosen yet. Bathke hopes to present the idea to the Mitchell City Council in July, but he emphasized that there’s still a long way to go before the plan becomes reality.
