MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A high-speed chase ended with a crash last Tuesday night. At around 10:45 PM on February 27th, a deputy tried to stop a Mazda that was traveling at 115 mph on Highway 37, north of Mitchell, in a 70 mph zone. The driver took off, leading authorities on a chase that was called off for safety reasons once it reached a residential area. The vehicle was later located but took off again, eventually crashing into a tree at Ohlman and National Guard Road. The driver, Steven Rath of Mitchell, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Queen of Peace Hospital. According to a Press Release from the Davison County Sheriff’s Office, Rath was arrested on multiple charges, including DUI, eluding law enforcement, driving with a revoked license, no proof of insurance, open container, and not wearing a seatbelt.
