A Mitchell man has received a patent on a safety invention that could save lives in the event of a school shooting or other emergency. Jeff Harris has invented the Threat Stop. Harris says the idea came about after an active shooter training at Dakota Wesleyan University, where he is employed as a janitor.
Harris says he has made some alterations and has another patent pending on the new version. While he is happy that the patent was approved, he says it is somewhat bittersweet that he has to design something like this due to potentially dangerous situations.
He plans on selling his patent to a manufacturer to mass produce. Harris and his invention will be featured on CNBC this month.
