Mitchell, S.D. (Mitchell Now) Mitchell Media Group is seeking a full-time Editor-in-Chief and On-Air Host to lead its newsroom and expand its local coverage across radio, digital, and social platforms, reinforcing its commitment to being “live and local” in the Mitchell and surrounding area.
The position represents a rare opportunity for a media professional to take on a high-impact leadership role in one of the region’s most recognized local broadcasting organizations. Based in Mitchell, the role blends editorial oversight of Mitchellnow.com, on-air hosting, and community engagement, with additional opportunities for sports play-by-play coverage.

The Editor-in-Chief will oversee daily news operations for our online news platform, Mitchell Now, ensuring consistent and ethical editorial standards across all platforms.
A Leadership Role at the Center of Local News
Mitchell Media Group is seeking a candidate who can take full ownership of both content and newsroom direction. In this role, the Editor-in-Chief will serve as the primary decision-maker for what news and information is delivered to the community, ensuring coverage is timely, relevant, and impactful.

The position also requires using analytics and digital tools to guide content strategy and strengthen audience engagement across Davison County.
Connecting With the Community On-Air
In addition to newsroom leadership, the selected candidate will host a daily afternoon radio shift, engaging directly with listeners. The role includes representing the station at community events and supporting promotional efforts, reinforcing the station’s presence throughout Davison County.
This dual role reflects the evolving nature of local media, where strong storytelling must translate seamlessly across broadcast and digital platforms.
Expanding Local Sports Coverage
Candidates with a background in sports broadcasting will find added opportunities in this role. Responsibilities may include leading high school sports coverage, calling play-by-play for football and basketball games, and producing pre- and post-game programming.
The position also involves building relationships with local schools, coaches, and athletic programs—further strengthening ties between the station and the community it serves.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The organization is seeking a self-starter with strong writing, editing, and on-air skills, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities. While a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is preferred, equivalent professional experience is also valued.
Candidates should have at least three to five years of experience in journalism, broadcasting, or digital media, along with a solid understanding of content management systems and social media engagement.
Above all, Mitchell Media Group is looking for someone who wants to be part of the community—not just report on it.
