The Mitchell Police Department is investigating a catalytic converter theft which occurred on May 7th at around 10:30 PM. The primary suspect in the theft was driving a smaller, 4- door, dark colored car, which they parked about a block away from the theft. Three Penske rental trucks were in the Palace Mall parking lot located at 1801 N Main St Mitchell. The suspect walked to the trucks and proceeded to cut out all the converters. The male walked back to his car carrying all the stolen converters and his saw.

While the suspect was driving away from the scene, a second vehicle, a larger white SUV, came to the suspect’s location and followed the suspect vehicle away from the scene. It is believed that the suspects were in communication with each other and that they may have been listening to a police scanner during the incident because the call alerting Mitchell Police of the theft and the suspects leaving the area occurred at the same time.
