MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A fresh start is coming to the area just north of Hitchcock Park. On Monday night, the Mitchell City Council unanimously approved a $1 million deal to purchase a mobile home park and surrounding city blocks. The city plans to redevelop the area with expanded parking for the Aquatic Center, along with new homes and apartments. Mayor Jordan Hanson says the 35-unit trailer park will eventually be cleared. The city will honor long-term leases and council members emphasized that no one will be pushed out without support. The city is also donating nearby land to Habitat for Humanity as part of the redevelopment plan. Council members said it’s about revitalizing the neighborhood while helping families find better housing. A 24-month timeline will be set for developers to turn the area into a vibrant residential space. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
