MITCHELL S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The new full day program is designed for students who will benefit from additional time to develop various skills before going on to kindergarten. The focus of the program is on preparing students for kindergarten by addressing key development milestones, including early literacy, numeracy and social-emotional growth. The full day schedule will allow for more hands-on learning, play based activities, and opportunities for students to build essential skills such as following directions, working with peers, and developing confidence both academically and socially.
Key features of the program include:
Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum which includes early literacy (letter and number recognition) motor skills development and social-emotional learning.
Social and Emotional Growth that will help develop social skills such as managing emotions, problem solving and working with others.
Pre-Academic Focus will be on getting students ready for kindergarten. While academic skills will be introduced Begindergarten students will not be expected to be reading or completing complex math tasks.
Children need to be five years old by September 1st to be eligible for Begindergarten. For more information or to register your child, contact your neighborhood school or call the Mitchell District Registrar at 605-995-3010
