MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Middle school students in Mitchell will now be able to earn high school credit for Algebra I and Spanish I. The school board unanimously approved a five-year waiver that allows the credit, giving advanced students a chance to get ahead and free up time for electives or college-level courses in high school. Superintendent Joe Childs said the move responds to student demand and helps create a more flexible schedule down the road. Also on Monday, the board approved the first reading of a new hazing policy at Mitchell Technical College. The policy brings the school into compliance with the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act, which requires colleges receiving federal aid to report hazing incidents publicly. The final vote on the policy is set for the board’s next meeting on June 23. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
