The Mitchell School Board on Monday approved the hiring of a social and emotional support specialist.

The specialist will be a 1.0 full-time-equivalent in the position of social worker and attendance liaison and will assess students’ social and emotional needs, collaborate on intervention plans and monitor attendance.

The specialist would also develop strategies to improve attendance rates and connect students and families with community resources and advocate for students’ rights, conduct outreach for attendance support and collaborate with external agencies to enhance attendance efforts.
