The Mitchell School Board took a first look at the 22-23 budgets for the Mitchell School District.  The general fund budget would be just under $21.6 million, which is up 7.34 percent from last year.  Mitchell School District Business Manager Steve Culhane broke down the general fund budget numbers.  The capital outlay budget of $4.85 million would be an increase of 6.2 percent from last year.  The special education budget would be $5.2 million, which is 2.9 percent more than last year.  Mitchell Technical College proposed a budget of just over $29 million, which is a 14.47 percent increase over last year.

Salaries will increase next year for administrators and teachers by 6 percent due to an increase in state funding.  Hourly personnel will receive an 8 percent increase in pay.

Property taxes are not expected to increase, as the owner-occupied tax levy, which is determined by the state, is decreasing from 3.153 to 3.048.

The board did not take action on the budgets last night.
