MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The Mitchell School District Caring Closet is expanding its monthly pop-up events with appointment-based clothing shopping and “Cuts for Kids” haircuts, a volunteer-run effort designed to help students access essentials confidentially.
The Caring Closet’s mission is to work with Mitchell school staff to discreetly distribute daily necessities so students can focus on having a successful academic year, according to program information shared publicly online.
Families can sign up for clothing appointments, haircut appointments, or both through an online SignUpGenius form . The haircut sign-ups are listed under “Student Hair Cuts for Kids Pop-Up Appointments provided by Hollywood Styles.
Appointments are intended only for students attending a Mitchell school in person. Due to limited resources, students are limited to four clothing pop-up appointments per school year, and no-shows count toward that total, organizers said.
Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to join the “MSD Caring Closet ~ Volunteer Page” Facebook group, where organizers share updates and volunteer opportunities
