MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Students from Mitchell High School and Mitchell Christian School will showcase their talents at the South Dakota All-State Jazz Band and Show Choir performances on May 10 at the Mitchell High School Performing Arts Center. The event, open to the public, will feature students from both schools in various ensembles, including the All-State Band and Combo ensemble. Guest conductors from across the country will lead the performances, highlighting the musical prowess of the students. This year’s event marks the fourth annual edition of the combined all-state jazz band and show choir event, with Mitchell High School’s Performing Arts Center becoming the regular site for future events. Tickets for the concert can be purchased online or at the venue on the day of the event.

Mitchell Plans Second Fire Station to Speed Up Response Times

Mitchell city officials are proposing a $2.5 million fire station on the north side of town to improve emergency response times and reduce insurance costs for residents. The station would be built near the old water treatment plant on Highway 37, with design work beginning in 2026 and an opening planned for 2027. City leaders say the new location will allow firefighters to reach the north side more quickly, while housing four firefighters who will share equipment with the current Public Safety building.
