MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A handful of Mitchell teachers are kicking off the school year with some extra help in the classroom. About $14,000 in KIDS Grants have been handed out for creative projects, technology, and hands-on learning experiences. The grants ranged from $700 to $5,000 and went to eight teachers who pitched their ideas. The KIDS Grant program, now in its 11th year, is fueled by donations from local families, businesses, and organizations and has put more than $174,000 into Mitchell classrooms since it started. Eight Mitchell teachers are starting the school year with new classroom resources thanks to $14,000 in KIDS Grants. The awards, ranging from $700 to $5,000, support creative projects, technology, sensory tools, fitness events, and new reading resources. Now in its 11th year, the KIDS Grant program has invested more than $174,000 in Mitchell classrooms, funded by donations from local families, businesses, and organizations.
