HURON — Josh Grosdidier rushed for 245 yards on 39 carries and scored all three of the Kernels touchdowns on Thursday to help lead Mitchell to victory 21-20 over Huron in the final game of the regular season.
Mitchell gained 325 of its 340 yards of total offense on the ground. Huron ran a similar run-heavy attack and was led by Jayden Beck with 82 yards and three total touchdowns.
Grosdidier scored on an 11-yard run with 2:14 left in the fourth quarter to give Mitchell a 14-6 lead. Huron answered less than a minute later with a 46-yard hook-and-ladder touchdown reception that was completed to Max Kranzler, who pitched it back to Beck. Huron converted on the two-point try to tie the game and force overtime.
Mitchell was on offense to begin overtime, and Grosdidier scored from five yards out on fourth-and-goal to put the Kernels ahead 21-14.
Huron fired back with a rushing touchdown by Beck of two yards. The Tigers opted for a two-point try to win the game. Beck was stopped inches shy of the goal line, and Mitchell prevailed 21-20.
