MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Christmas came early for local veterans in Mitchell thanks to the efforts of Mitchell VFW Post 2750, its Auxiliary, and several community partner groups.

Volunteers delivered personalized holiday gifts, snacks and friendly conversation to veterans living in area care facilities on Sunday. The visits were designed to ensure veterans feel remembered and appreciated during the holiday season.

According to organizers, volunteers worked from individual wish lists submitted by veterans, allowing gifts to be tailored to personal interests and needs. In addition to the gifts, volunteers brought along music to help create a festive atmosphere during the visits.

Members of the VFW and Auxiliary said the annual effort is about more than presents, focusing on personal connection and gratitude for veterans’ service.

The visits are part of an ongoing commitment by local veterans organizations and community partners to support veterans throughout the year, especially during the holidays when feelings of isolation can be more common.
