What a great evening it was last night in South Dakota amateur baseball as on our Kool 98.3 FM matchup we had the Wessington Spring Owls vs the Chamberlain Mallards as both teams got off to a great start as it was 2 to 1 Spring Owls after one. But the Owls would flex their offensive muscles scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the fourth to win the game by the final of 10 to 1. Tyson Lien weas the difference in the game for Wessington going 3 for 5 at the plate and scoring a run and driving in three. Terek Butterfield pitched a complete game 9 inning masterpiece only allowing 1 run on two hits. The Wessington Spring Owls are no 9-3 on the season.
The Kimble White Nationals stayed red hot winning a close game that came down to the wire winning in walk-off fashion on a home run to knock off the Burke Bombers by the final of 6 to 5. Jaxon Christensen batted 2-for-5 in the game for the Nationals, including a double and homer, driving two runs. Dylan Konenche drove in a run on two hits, including a double, while Tucker Wookey drove in a run on a walk as well. Three pitchers combined for the victory on the mound for KWL, Ethan Price threw five innings, allowing two runs on four hits and four walks, striking out six, Dylanger Pierson tossed three innings of relief, issuing two runs on three hits and two walks, tossing another six strikeouts, while Hudson Heath tossed one inning, allowing one run on three walks.
The Plankinton Bankers won a close game at home over the Colome Chaos winning by the final of 8 to 6 thanks to Blaine Bohr who tallied three RBIs on a double, Cain Tobin and Griffin Tobin each drove in two runs on one hit, Kane Knudson stove in a run on one hit, while Thomas Stange and Hunter Pranger each tallied three hits in the victory, including two doubles by Thomas Stange.
The Winner Demons are now 6-6 on the season after another come from behind close win beating Four Corners 10 to 9 thanks to Landon Calhoon who paced the Winner offense batting 2-for-3 with two walks and three RBIs, Justin Hausman tallied two hits, two walks, and an RBI, Pierce Nelson, Casey Heenan, Bartels, and Bryce Bohnet each drove in a run on one hit, while Kayleb Brozik and Ashton Klein each tallied hits in the victory.
The Sunshine League had their front runners win big again as the Winner Colome Pheasants have won 12 straight winning again last night over the Mount Vernon Mustangs at home by the final of 13 to 6 by a very impressive performance by Winners Austin Calhoon who went 2-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam, driving in a combined six runs, Reed Harter drove in two runs on three hits, including a double and a home run, Austin Richey tallied three hits, a double, and two RBIs, Aiden Barfuss launched a solo home run along with drawing two walks, Dillon Lambley collected two hits and an RBI, while Drew DeMers and JJ Farner each tallied hits in the win, including a double by DeMers.
The Alexandria Angels are rolling as well winning by the final of 12 to nothing over the Parkston Rays at home including a stella performance by Jerrod Zens collected five RBIs as Alexandria dominated in a Sunshine League victory Sunday.
Zens batted 2-for-2 with two walks, two doubles, and five RBIs, Jordan Gau batted 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, Tyson Gau and Pierce Smith each drove in two runs on a double, while Peyton Smith and Jacob Giles each tallied hits in the victory.
The Dimock Emery Raptors have won 3 out of four games winning last night by the final of 8 to 3 over the Platte Killer Tomatoes in Platte thanks to Landon Waddell who tossed 7.1 innings for Dimock/Emery, issuing two runs on four hits and six walks, striking out 15 batters along the way to earn the victory on the mound for the Raptors.
The SDGA crowned four Champions Yesterday at the SDGA Match Play Championship in Brookings, SD. 136 players competed for four Championships over the past four days, Men, Women, Senior Men, and Senior Women. In the 2nd SDGA Women’s Senior Match Play Championship, Marna Raburn of Rapid City defeated Cara Boehler of Rapid City 3&2. In the 3rd SDGA Men’s Senior Match Play Championship, Brad Buche of Mitchell won his 2nd title with a 3&2 victory over Rob Dewit of Sioux Falls. In the 48th SDGA Women’s Match Play Championship, Shakira-Ann Kuys of Brookings defeated Olivia Braun of Aberdeen 2&1. In the 103rd SDGA Men’s Match Play Championship, Luke Honner of Sioux Falls defeated Brodie Hullinger of Brookings 4&3.
The DWU Football youth camps are tonight July 15th and 16th with a 6:30-8:00 p.m. session. The DWU Football youth camps are for grades k- 8th grades and are for grades entering fall of 2024. The cost of The DWU Football youth camps is $30 per participant. The DWU Football youth camps are from 6:30pm- 8:00pm on July 15th for k-4th grades and July 16th for grades 5th-8th grades and includes a T-shirt. Players will participate in non-contact drills and are run by DWU Coaches and players. The DWU Football youth camps are on July 15th and 16th. The Mitchell 16u Teeners were in Sioux Falls over the weekend competing in the Mid-summer Classic tournament. The first game of the day on Friday was against 507 Blizzard in a low scoring and close game. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team rallied late scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as they almost erased a five-run deficit but would end up losing by the final of 6 to 4. Mitchell’s Kendan Skinner had an RBI going 1 for 2 at the plate. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball teams Jacob Ebert picked up the loss for the Mitchell 16u teener baseball team going 5 innings allowing seven runs on six hits while fanning 8. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team again stormed back in game two on Friday against Post 8 JL 16u baseball team scoring one run in the top of the 7th then another run in the eighth to tie the game at 2 apiece. The Post 8 JL 16u baseball team would score 1 more run in the top of the nineth to break the 2-2 tie and win by the final of 3 to 2. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team had better luck on Saturday in Sioux Falls against the Rebels 15u AAA baseball team as they crushed them by the final of 14 to nothing.
The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team scored five runs in the top of the first and 7 more in the top of the fourth and would win the game pounding out nine hits. Mitchells Dawson Adams powered the Teeners offense going 2 for 2 at the plate scoring three runs while driving in 3. Mitchells Kendan Skinner picked up the win going three innings and striking out six and only allowing no runs and one hit. The Mitchell 16u teener baseball team is now 22-8 on the season and is back on diamond at home in a doubleheader vs The Post 15 black 16u baseball team at 4 pm.
The Mitchell Aces are now 8-2 on the season after another great performance at home on Friday night at Cadwell Park. They are now on a current seven-game winning streak thanks to great pitching and late inning come from behind victories thanks in part to timely hitting. The Mitchell Aces offense was red hot on Friday night as they jumped out to an early lead vs the visiting the Salem Cubs after Mitchells Connor Mattke got the scoring started for the Mitchell Aces as he singled to center scoring a run in the bottom of the second to give the Aces a one to nothing lead. Mitchells Peyton Mandell scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third and the Mitchell Aces had a 2 to 0 lead. Mitchell’s Peyton Mandell would again come up in the bottom of the fifth and drive in two more runs giving the Aces’ lead to 4 to nothing.
The Aces would score 3 more runs in the bottom of the eighth and would go on and win the game by the final of 9 to 2 over the Salem Cubs. The Salem Cubs only two hits in the game came from Kyle Braun and the pitcher Braeden Kerkhove. The Mitchell Aces Colin Stange went 7 innings and only allowed two runs on two hits and picked up the win. Hudson Haley would finish the final two innings as he recorded the final six outs. The offense for the Mitchell Aces was led by Lincoln Bates who scored two runs and collected two hits while homering in the bottom of the eighth driving in two runs. The Mitchell Aces have now won seven games in a row and look to stay red hot on Sunday against the SF Brewers starting 5 pm at Cadwell Park.
