More details have been released regarding a fire at a downtown Mitchell business on Sunday.

At 4:49 PM, the Mitchell Public Safety Dispatch Center began receiving reports of a fire at Graham Goodyear Tire. Engine 8 responded and arrived to find several large tractor tires fully involved with fire. Engine 8 pulled several hand lines and immediately began attacking the fire. The tires were filled with air and piled for storage on pallets. When the fire impinged on the tires, several “explosions” were heard. This was due to the air being vented from the tires. The fire also caused an overhead line to collapse and Northwestern Energy responded and discontinued power to the area.

No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. The fire was contained in approximately one hour. Engine 1 and Medic 4 also responded with additional fire personnel. The Davison County Sheriff’s Office assisted, along with Davison County Emergency Management. After further investigation, this fire was deemed suspicious. The Mitchell Police Division was able to review several cameras in the area. A juvenile male was identified as the responsible party, and further action will be taken in the juvenile court system.
