MOUNT VERNON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A trailer home in Mount Vernon was destroyed by fire late Friday night. Alyssa and Dave Sweet were rescued by a sheriff’s deputy who kicked in their front door. Their son was not home at the time. Alyssa was treated for smoke inhalation after saving the family dog. The fire appears to have been electrical, and the home is considered a total loss. Donations of cash, clothing, and household items are being accepted at Westy’s One Stop in Mount Vernon.
