MITCHELL — The Mount Vernon Mustangs became the first of our Mitchell Radio Group listening area teams to advance into the second round of the SDABA 2022 Class B state tournament with a 10-0 win over Redfield DQ in seven innings on Thursday.

Bradley Dean earned the win on the mound for the Mustangs. In 4.0 innings, Dean allowed three hits and three walks and twice got out of bases-loaded jams without surrendering a run.

Spencer Neugebauer kicked off the game for Mt. Vernon with a triple and then scored on a single by Chase Hetland. Redfield starter Kyle Stover lasted just eight batters before being relieved by Miller-Wessington pickup player Cody Cotton. Stover allowed five hits and six earned runs in those eight at bats.
