Mitchell firefighters were on the scene of a grass fire north of Cemetery Road on Wednesday afternoon. The fire at 25088 407th Avenue was reported just before 12:30. A controlled burn spread to a field and shelterbelt totaling about an acre and a half, burning trees that were already dead. There were no injuries and no significant damage. No structures were threatened in the blaze. Mount Vernon firefighters were called for assistance. Fire officials were on the scene for nearly two hours.
