Mitchell firefighters were on the scene of a house fire over the weekend. Just before 7:30 PM on Saturday, a resident called 911 and reported that a fire was visible on their home security system. Police and firefighters arrived at 1001 West 4th Avenue and found heavy fire coming from the rear of the home. A second and third alarm were called, and fire crews had the fire knocked down in less than an hour. The fire appears to have originated in a three-season room and extended into the home. The home sustained minimal fire damage but heavy smoke damage. The three-season room was destroyed. No one was home at the time of the fire. An investigation into the cause is being conducted. In addition to Mitchell fire and police, fire crews from Mt. Vernon, Ethan, Alexandria, Letcher and Rosedale responded, as did the Salvation Army, Northwestern Energy, Mitchell Water, and the Mitchell Traffic Division.
