One person died Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash near Lake Andes. Just before 9 PM, a Chevy Silverado pickup was heading south on 382nd Avenue near 290th Street about two miles north of Lake Andes when it left the roadway. The vehicle entered the ditch and hit a field approach. The driver and lone occupant, a 40-year old male, was taken to a Wagner hospital where he died. His name has not been released pending notification of family members. An investigation continues.
Meanwhile, the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety says five people died on South Dakota roads over the weekend. Traffic fatalities are at 132 this year, which is a ten percent increase from last year’s number.
