CANTON, S.D. – One person died and another person was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash late Saturday night west of Canton.
Names of the two people involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates that a 2007 Saturn Vue was southbound on South Dakota Highway 115 at around 10:30 PM. As it entered the intersection with U.S. Highway 18, it collided with a 2012 Subaru Forester that was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18.
The 40-year-old female driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The 57-year-old male driver of the Saturn, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Charges are pending against the driver of the Saturn.
