MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Mitchell families with children in grades 2-6 will have a new opportunity to participate in organized baseball beginning in summer 2027, following a partnership announced Thursday, Nov. 5, between the Palace City Baseball Association and Mitchell Parks & Recreation.
The organizations announced Thursday, Nov. 5, that the Palace City Baseball Youth League will provide baseball opportunities for children in grades 2-6, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.
The youth league announcement comes as Mitchell prepares for another addition to its summer baseball scene. The Palace City Bison, a summer collegiate team in the Independence League, are also preparing for their inaugural 2027 season at Cadwell Park. Read more about the Palace City Bison’s plans for 2027.
The program is designed for young athletes of varying experience levels, offering age-appropriate instruction while helping players build confidence, friendships and a foundation in baseball.
“Following our inaugural season, we’re excited to take this next step in growing Palace City Baseball and creating opportunities for younger players in our community,” said Charlie Dubanoski, PCBA director of baseball.
The new league builds on the association’s inaugural 2026 season and expands opportunities for younger players. PCBA currently represents South Dakota Class A 13U-16U baseball and American Legion Post 18 Junior and Senior Legion teams.
Thomas Gulledge, recreation superintendent for Mitchell Parks & Recreation, said the partnership will provide benefits beyond athletic competition.
“Youth sports are about so much more than wins and losses,” Gulledge said. “They’re about learning new skills, making friends, building confidence, and developing a lifelong appreciation for being active.”
