MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) At a recent Mitchell Planning Commission meeting, developer Justin Thiesse pitched a big lakeshore project. It’s a senior living center called Peaceful Pines with 56 units, about 50 potential jobs, and a boost to city taxes. Mayor Jordan Hanson and others support it, seeing good opportunities for local nursing students and the community. But some neighbors are reportedly concerned that the plan is too broad and could lead to unwanted developments like a strip mall or gas station. Those concerns caused one commissioner to vote against rezoning. City officials say the process has been fair and by the book. The project now moves to City Council on June 16, and if approved, construction could start this fall. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
