Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-SD) announced eight Service Academy appointments of South Dakota students and residents. They will begin their military training at their respective schools this summer. The Congressman nominated each of these students in December 2020 and they recently accepted their appointments.
“One of the best parts of my job is nominating South Dakota’s best and brightest, in hopes they’ll go on to serve our country at one of our nation’s esteemed military academies,” said Johnson. “These students are exceptional and their willingness to dedicate their lives to defending America’s freedom is honorable. I know they will all represent South Dakota well at their respective institutions.”
Caden Tegethoff is a resident of Platte, South Dakota and graduated from Platte-Geddes High School in 2020. In high school, Caden was a four-year varsity cross country and track runner. He was also involved in theatre, student council, and president of National Honor Society. Caden actively volunteered with Pals, a youth mentor program in his hometown. With a Falcon Foundation Scholarship designed for students who don’t receive an immediate appointment to the Air Force Academy, Caden studied for a semester at civilian Northwestern Preparatory School and is currently studying math and data science at Augustana. This year he accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.
