HURON, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Police were called to an apartment on 10th and Minnesota in Huron yesterday. Things escalated and over a dozen police units responded to the call along with a SWAT unit. An apartment complex was asked to evacuate and area residents were told to shelter in place while schools in Huron were placed on lockdown.
Attorney General Marty Jackley confirmed a violent death was involved and the incident is being treated as a crime of murder. Beadle County State’s Attorney Michael Moore confirmed that one person is dead, and a suspect is in custody.
The lockdown was lifted by 2:30pm yesterday afternoon and the Huron Police Department thanked the public and the schools for their cooperation.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting the Huron Police Department in the continuing inquiry into the case.
