The Yankton Police Department (YPD) recently reported multiple incidents of checks being stolen from outgoing residential mail over the past two months. The department advised residents to avoid mailing checks from personal mailboxes and instead use secure options such as post office lobby drop boxes or electronic payment methods.
The Mitchell Police Department shared YPD’s alert on social media, noting that similar mail theft activity has also been reported in the Mitchell area. Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and monitor bank accounts for any unauthorized transactions.
