PIERRE S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mason-Dixon Polling and Strategy along with South Dakota News Watch conducted a poll of South Dakota adults during May 10-13,2024, regarding Governor Kristi Noem.  The poll shows that nearly two-thirds of South Dakotans think Noem has damaged her credibility with the release of her book “No Going Back”.

As for Noem’s bid to become the vice-presidential nominee on the 2024 Republican ticket, nearly 60% of South Dakotans think Noem should not be chosen, including 55% of Republicans.

Nearly 6 in 10 of the statewide poll respondents (58%) said they felt Noem’s shooting of her unruly dog Cricket was not justified, compared to 38% who thought it was justified.  Women felt more strongly than men about the shooting of Cricket, 65% of women said the shooting wasn’t justified, compared to 50% for men.

The Governor’s personal popularity in the state is down to 39%, a 13-point drop from a similar poll down in October of 2020. Nearly half of those responding to the poll (48%) said they had an unfavorable opinion of Noem, double the number from 2020.
