PIERRE S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A poll of registered South Dakota voters conducted by South Dakota News Watch and the Chiesman Center for Democracy has found that Donald Trump is at 50% support, Biden charts 31% while third party candidate is at 11% while 7% of respondents said they were undecided.

Of Republican respondents in the poll, 70% said they had a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 10% unfavorable.  Overall, the former president’s favorability in the state is 47%, including 13% of Democrats and 36% of independents.  Republican Governor Kristi Noem had an overall favorability of 39% in the poll.

Meanwhile, President Biden’s favorability rating is at 26% statewide, including 60% among Democrats and 5% with Republicans.  Biden’s popularity with Independents is on par with Trumps, with 35% favorable and 44% unfavorable.

The last Democrat to finish within 10 points of a Republican presidential nominee was Barack Obama in 2008.  Franklin Roosevelt won the state in 1932 and 1936.  The last time a Democrat won South Dakota’s electoral votes in a presidential election was Lyndon Johnson in
