BROOKINGS, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A prescribed burn was successfully completed Thursday at Dakota Nature Park in Brookings. According to KELOLand, City Parks and Recreation officials say the weather cooperated for the planned burn, which covered the hill area of the park. Trails and nearby areas were closed during the operation for public safety. Officials say prescribed burns reduce dry vegetation, lower wildfire risk, and promote native prairie growth. The Brookings Fire Department and city crews were on hand to monitor the burn. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
