PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Governor Larry Rhoden says his use of state-issued credit cards will not mirror former Governor Kristi Noem. This comes after Noem’s credit card records, revealing over $600,000 in charges for luxury hotels, car rentals, and meals, were made public following her resignation to join President Trump’s cabinet. The Sioux Falls-based Dakota Scout newspaper fought for the release of the records, suing the State Auditor. Last year, the auditor denied the request, citing security concerns, but a settlement was reached in February, allowing access to the documents after Noem’s move to the Department of Homeland Security. The records show Noem frequently booked expensive hotel stays, rented vehicles nationwide, and made various other high-end purchases. Governor Rhoden, addressing questions about the spending, said he is focused on the present and assured that under his leadership, credit card spending won’t be an issue. The Associated Press and KELO Land News have also obtained thousands of pages of Noem’s credit card receipts and statements, which are under review.
