MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The effort to bring Amtrak passenger trains to South Dakota is not over. Republican Representative Tim Goodwin, who authored a general Amtrak resolution, says he plans to try again after the legislation failed by one vote among the State Congress last week. It would have called on South Dakota’s federal delegation along with the Trump administration to work to establish an Amtrak route between Denver and Minneapolis that goes through Rapid City, Pierre and Sioux Falls. Goodwin says it may cost South Dakota taxpayers around 25 thousand dollars for the rail service, but noted the state would get millions in return on investment.
