PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The South Dakota Education Equity Coalition (SDEEC) has expressed strong opposition in a media release to Governor Noem’s recent comments about Native education. The Governor’s remarks, which suggested a lack of hope and parental support among Native children, have been criticized as a stark misrepresentation of the realities of Native communities and their commitment to their children’s education and well-being.
The SDEEC pointed out that this pattern of remarks from Governor Noem is part of a concerning trend that began with her first executive order in office, which dismantled programs to promote educational equity, directly impacting the Native community.
