SIOUX FALLS, SD (MITCHELLNOW)  They say defense wins championships but sometimes keys shots turn the tide. In a very low scoring first half the #1 ranked SDSU women’s basketball team knew this might be their toughest championship game to win.

Down in the first quarter to a very physical NDSU women’s basketball team by the score of 11 to 10 in a first quarter where both teams struggled from the field, the Lady Jackrabbits knew shots needed to start falling to win this game. SDSU Jackrabbit’s guard Paige Meyer said we have to stick to our defensive game plan and then the shots will fall as she took it upon herself to lead the Lady Jackrabbits back in the game with a big three pointer to end the first half and her 6 points were crucial to give the Lady Jackrabbits a slim two-point lead at halftime 22 to 20.

The second half featured more scoring and defense as the lead changed hands four times thanks to key scoring from NDSU Bisons Avery Koenen who finished the quarter with 8 points and Championship MVP’S Paige Meyer’s two three pointers were key in the third. The Lady Jackrabbits would again focus on defense first as they held the Lady Bison scoreless in the fourth quarter for over five minutes and go on a 20 to 8 run which was aided by a fourteen to nothing run to close out the game and win the Summit League Womens Championship game by the final 67 to 54.

This is their second Summit League title in as many seasons and 11th overall. The SDSU women’s basketball guard Paige Meyer would be named the Championship MVP as she finished with a game high 18 points and her key three pointers would close out the Bison. The SDSU women’s basketball jackrabbits’ team has now won forty straight games over the last two seasons and finishes the season with a twenty-one-game winning streak and a 27 and five record.
