Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that Cassandra Jelsma, a former state prison employee, was sentenced to 90 days in prison after pleading guilty to a prohibited sexual act with an inmate. The incident occurred between November 2022 and June 2023 at Mike Durfee State Prison. Jelsma also got a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended. According to a press release, AG Jackley condemned her actions, saying they reflect poorly on the many dedicated correctional staff. The case was investigated by the Division of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Corrections Office of the Inspector General.
